The St. Louis Cardinals sent two players to the MLB Futures Game on Sunday. Who could’ve put their name on the prospect map by showing up big?

With one less player than last year at the MLB Futures Game, the St. Louis Cardinals were still very well represented when Dylan Carlson and Nolan Gorman got their opportunities to show what they could do against the best of their fellow prospects.

In what was a bit of a disappointing finish to the game, it ended in a tie where the National League and the American League both ended with two runs after a rule change made the game just seven innings with one extra inning.

Dylan Carlson, who is still just 20 years old and playing at AA Springfield started in right field for the NL and made the most of his two plate appearances as he singled in one of the two runs. More from St Louis Cardinals Prospects

Nolan Gorman had one at-bat and lined out.

Even though Gorman didn’t show up, it was great to see the Cardinals top two prospects compete against the best of their peers. At just 19 and 20 years old, Gorman and Carlson are the future of this team…if the front office decides not to flip one or both of them for major league help.

If the team hangs on to both of these two young studs, it wouldn’t be out of the question to see both of them in the Opening Day lineup of the 2021 Cardinals. Gorman at third base and Carlson at left field.

While Carlson will likely be ready to hit the Majors at some point next year, Gorman will require some more seasoning. Both of them being invited to the Futures Game is a big recognition of their success so far, but there is clearly more work to be done.
