Bryce Harper has been a member of the Washington Nationals since he was drafted. As a team with a ton of talent, how would Harper fit into their already-powerful lineup?

The Washington Nationals were the first team involved with Harper as they reportedly offered their former right fielder a 10 year $300M deal as a starting point at the beginning of the offseason. Harper reportedly turned that deal down and the Nationals upped their offer at one point and there haven’t been any clear cut reports on the offers since then.

The Nationals have done nothing but make themselves more attractive to Harper though as they have made a number of acquisitions since their first offer. This offseason alone, the Nationals have signed Brian Dozier, Patrick Corbin, Matt Adams, Kurt Suzuki, Trevor Rosenthal, Anibal Sanchez and traded for Yan Gomes.

The Nats have made the most moves of any team this offseason after finishing two games above .500 in 2018. They are definitely the better team and with an outfield that already includes Adam Eaton and top prospects Juan Soto and Victor Robles, Harper would be a big cherry on top.

Their lineup with Harper would look like:

  1. Adam Eaton, CF
  2. Trea Turner, SS
  3. Bryce Harper, RF
  4. Anthony Rendon, 3B
  5. Juan Soto/Victor Robles, LF
  6. Ryan Zimmerman, 1B
  7. Brian Dozier, 2B
  8. Yan Gomes, C

That lineup, added to a starting rotation of Max Scherzer, Patrick Corbin, Stephen Strasburg, Joe Ross and Anibal Sanchez and that definitely looks like a team that could win the World Series. There are no holes anywhere in the lineup from top to bottom.

The Cardinals went 5-2 against the Nationals in 2018, and that number will definitely be hard to replicate against the Nationals without Harper, let alone with him.
