The St. Louis Cardinals top 30 has been updated on MLB Pipeline to reflect performance this season, and to add in new draftees.

There are several significant changes to the rankings from top to bottom. A big jump or two happened, and some inevitable falls. But, some moves had to be made to fit in the new batch of St. Louis Cardinals farmhands recently acquired in the draft.

Draft Picks

Perhaps the most notable changes come with the addition of new draft picks. The big question on most minds, of course, is where would first rounder Nolan Gorman end up? The day is here to get that answer.

Gorman now sits as the St. Louis Cardinals number three prospect. Ahead of him is Tyler O’Neill, and behind him is Dakota Hudson. He is not highly touted enough to make MLB Pipelines top 100, but he does rank in at number nine for the third base position.

The next draftee to crack the top 30 is Griffin Roberts, a pitcher taken as a Competitive Balance pick. The righty out of Wake Forrest checks in at number 11 in the organization after a three year stint with the Demon Deacons.

Luken Baker is the next draft pick on the list. This guy has started his professional career about as well as he can. It took him only 24 games to get a promotion. That is efficiency. He is an advanced bat out of TCU, and he is now the Cardinals 16th ranked prospect.

The finals player from the 2018 draft to crack the top 30 is Steven Gingery. He is another pitcher out of Texas Tech who ranks 19th in the system. The St. Louis Cardinals got him in the fourth round, but he will not throw professionally until next season. Gingery went through Tommy John surgery in February, and the team got wants him to rehab with their doctors.

Meteoric Rise

The biggest increase in stock was infielder Elehuris Montero. He found his way up to number eight from near the bottom of the list. This is something that is not surprising. We predicted it at Redbird Rants. It is still a massive stock increase and well deserved.

For those who have seen Montero play, they know how special he is. It takes one game to figure that out. The ball just flat out looks, and sounds, different coming when he hits it. Stay tuned for more big things from him.

One Drop To Watch

Delvin Perez fell a couple more spots in this update. That has been his trend recently. However, it shouldn’t be his trend for that long. He is a solid player that is finally finding his footing. His ranking was not aided by the fact he’s played in only 29 games thus far this season.

The 19 year old infielder is playing for the State College Spikes, and his hitting .266. But there is no doubt that he has the talent. That is why the Cardinals took him in the first round back in 2016. He just needs to grow into his raw ability, and he is slowly doing that. Don’t sleep on Delvin Perez.

Next. Tommy Parsons against the odds. dark

Prospect updates always feel like Christmas to me. It is exciting to see where everyone falls. This is a good group of guys in the St. Louis Cardinals farm system, and it just got stronger. Watch out for this teams future.
