The official position has yet to be announced but it is one in which Carpenter would not be in uniform. Cardinals GM John Mozeliak spoke to reporters on Saturday during the Winter Warm-Up about Carpenter’s future role with the organization.
"Mozeliak announced this morning that they came to an agreement on a position, one that would not be in uniform. Carpenter is interested in learning about various aspects of the front office and could be involved in the scouting process, Mozeliak said. The details and the title of the job are being written by him now."
It was noted that Carpenter would have a role with the Cardinals camp in Jupiter for Spring Training but he would not be there for the entire camp.
"Mozeliak said that Carpenter will be enrolled in the spring program that the Cardinals have for many of their young scouts. Mozeliak envisions a way for Carpenter to get experience at several levels of scouting. That is similar to what former closer Ryan Franklin did before moving into a special assistant to the general manager role."
MMo expects a hitter like Peter Bourjos to hit 8th rather than at the top of the lineup.
With Daniel Descalso‘s salary request, the club will have their first arbitration hearing in more than a decade.
The club will possibly discuss a contract extension with third baseman Matt Carpenter.
