The St. Louis Cardinals fell 5-3 to the Milwaukee Brewers. Unfortunately for the Cardinals, the Pittsburgh Pirates chose not to cooperate with the club and both teams are tied again once more.

Matt Adams hit a solo home run in the ninth inning with two outs but it was not enough.

In the fourth inning, the Cards scored twice. Jon Jay scored on Matt Holliday‘s double. Holliday would score on David Freese‘s sac fly.

Joe Kelly got the start for the Cardinals. It was the first time since joining the rotation that the California native picked up the loss. He now moves to 8-4 this season with a 2.87 ERA after allowing three earned runs in five innings. Kelly allowed seven hits, walked one, and struck out four batters. The pitcher also allowed a two-run homer in the fourth inning.

There is some news involving the team. Trevor Rosenthal was not available to pitch today as his wife was in labor with their first child. The team is optimistic that catcher Yadier Molina will be available to play against the Seattle Mariners on Friday.

The status of Allen Craig remains to be determined. He is back in a walking boot for the moment.
