St. Louis Cardinals rally late, beat Chicago Cubs 8-4

It took a rally but the St. Louis Cardinals finally got a win for the first time since Tuesday by defeating the Chicago Cubs 8-4.

Both Matt Carpenter and Matt Holliday are seeing the ball well right now. Carpenter went 3 for 5 with 2 runs and an RBI. Holliday went 2 for 3 with a run, RBI, and 2 walks.

Allen Craig went 3 for 3 with 2 runs, an RBI, and 2 walks.

After the Cubs tied the Cards with 4 runs in the 6th inning, Pete Kozma drove in the go-ahead RBI with a single that scored Tony Cruz.

Jon Jay‘s sac fly in the 7th inning scored Craig to add in another insurance run.

In the bottom of the 8th inning, doubles from Carpenter and Craig drove in two more insurance runs.

Joe Kelly pitched 5.1 innings. He allowed 5 hits, 4 runs (3 earned), 2 walks, and struck out 3 batters.

Seth Maness blew the save while pitching .1 innings. He wasn’t credited with any earned runs as both runs scored were credited to Kelly. He allowed 2 hits.

Randy Choate, who pitched the final out of the 6th inning, was credited with the win. He had a flawless appearance.

Kevin Siegrist pitched the 7th inning. He walked 2 and struck out 2 batters.

It was up to Edward Mujica to pitch a 2-inning save. He did so while facing 7 batters and throwing 30 pitches.
