While the world was ablaze talking about a sharknado, the Cardinals had no problems putting runs on the board. With Joe Kelly on the mound, the Cardinals gave him a 2-0 lead to start the game.

In the first inning, Matt Carpenter scored on Carlos Beltran‘s triple. Beltran scored on Allen Craig‘s single.

In the 7th inning, Carpenter doubled and drove in catcher Rob Johnson.

Kelly pitched 5.1 innings for the day. He allowed 3 hits, 1 run, walked 2, and struck out 4 batters. It was enough to pick up his first win of the season.

Randy Choate finished out the final 2/3 of the 6th inning and walked 1 batter.

Seth Maness pitched the 1/3 of an inning in the 7th. He allowed 1 hit and struck out 1 batter. Maness was quickly relieved by Kevin Siegrist, who would pitch for a complete inning–finishing out the 7th inning and starting the 8th inning. Siegrist allowed 1 hit, 1 run, and struck out 3 batters.

Trevor Rosenthal pitched the final 2/3 of the 8th inning. Rosenthal struck out 1 batter.

Edward Mujica was sent out for a flawless 9th inning to pick up his 26th save of the season.
