A Slow Time for News

It’s a slow time of the year for any kind of baseball news coming from the front office of the St. Louis Cardinals or their minor league affiliates. However, just because it’s the offseason does not mean that we take a break here at Redbird Rants.

Here at Redbird Rants, we have made some changes in the last few weeks regarding our staff. Robb Saul, the previous editor, stepped down and I have taken over as the editor of Redbird Rants. As our faithful readers have seen in the past two weeks, we put out the call for new writers. I received numerous emails from those of you that wanted to join the staff. We have extended offers to two writers. Their words will grace these pages after the new year.

Spring training is right around the corner and players wishing it was already here such as Carson Kelly, Shelby Miller, and Matt Carpenter.

February 12th is the voluntary Spring Training reporting date for pitchers, catchers and injured players. For those not playing in the World Baseball Classic, the mandatory reporting date is February 20th. Hard to believe as it may be, we are just over a month and a half away from the start of Spring Training.

Along with the start of Spring Training, the annual dinner hosted by the St. Louis chapter of the BBWAA is coming up in the next few weeks. Being honored by the baseball writers are Mark Whiten and Yadier Molina.
