Invasion of the Body Snatchers?– If you’ve seen the movie and the remake of the “Body Snatchers”, you know the plot. Aliens in the form of seed pods fall to earth and prey upon humans who sleep; eventually cloning their body. The resemblance is perfect but, you can sense after a while that something isn’t quite right. The only way to get

the original human back is to kill the clone. That is the only thing I can think of that happened to Adam Wainwright in Game 5. His body was snatched by an alien and by the time the Cards realized it and “killed” the clone, they were down 6-0. Thankfully, the Redbirds kept “pecking” away at the lead and with relentless determination, beat the Washington Nationals 9-7. Daniel Descalso, Pete Kozma, Carlos Beltran and Matt Holliday did the damage offensively, while the bullpen literally saved Adam Wainwright and pitched the Cards to play another series.

If you thought last year’s performance was a game for the ages, the Cards experience and never say die attitude overwhelmed the young upstarts in Washington D.C. The crowd left the stadium stunned and one of the Nationals’ players (Jayson Werth) sat in the dugout in stunned disbelief wondering “…what the hell happened”. What happened was this; the Cardinals who may now get some respect, kept playing baseball and showed those viewing on national TV that they didn’t “back into” the playoffs and didn’t “luck” their way into this game. This team is talented, experienced, and have determination and the attitude to defend their World Series crown.

Don’t worry about Adam Wainwright’s performance tonite. He knows better than anyone he needs to pitch better moving forward and can’t afford to have an “off nite” at this stage of the post season. We need him and though the bullpen was splendid tonite, our starters are important and we need them to continue pitching the way they’re capable of pitching. Waino will rebound in grand fashion when he pitches again.

More about the upcoming NLCS in tomorrow’s blog. Thanks for reading and GO CARDS!
