Daily Rant: Cardinals emerge victorious in pitcher’s duel

The Cardinals faced the Giants with hopes of salvaging a series tie on Thursday night. Adam Wainwright and Madison Bumgarner faced off in what became a pitching showcase. The Cardinals got on the board early, though, and maintained the lead to take the victory.

The Positives
- Jon Jay had his fourth consecutive multi-hit game in a two hit effort. He had a single and his tenth double of the season. He also scored a run and stole two bases. Jay now has thirteen steals on the season.
- Carlos Beltran hit his 27th home run and, with two RBIs, now has a league-leading 80 RBIs.
- Adam Wainwright only allowed one earned run off five hits and three walks through seven innings.
- Mitchell Boggs and Jason Motte combined for two scoreless innings to close the game out. Boggs was perfect in his frame, while Motte only allowed one walk to pick up his 25th save.
Justin’s Jeers
- The Cardinals got just enough offense to pick up the win, but they were still contained. Allen Craig, Matt Holliday, David Freese, Yadier Molina, Daniel Descalso, and Rafael Furcal all were held hitless.
Three Stars
