September Call-Up Candidate: Steven Hill

In today’s look at minor leaguers eligible for a September call-up, we will look at catcher/infielder Steven Hill. Hill saw some time with the big league team already this year, but did not do much with his limited time. He had a .429 OPS and scored a run. He’s been slightly better at AAA, however, as he has a .786 OPS and eleven home runs in 61 games. He has a decent track record of putting up good averages, decent pop, and not too shabby defense behind the dish and at first base. He does, however, have the same patience issues as Bryan Anderson. He doesn’t walk very much and flirts with striking out in nearly a third of his at bats. Like Anderson, I don’t see Hill getting much playing time if he does get the call, however the Cardinals do tend to like carrying three catchers when September rolls around.
Redbird Rants prediction: Hill gets the call, but not much in the way of playing time.
