Daily Rant: Cardinals gain ground on Reds with a sweep of the Brewers

The Cardinals earned the sweep in dramatic fashion by sweeping the Brewers on Sunday night. The pitching staff was lights out all the way and the offense put up just enough runs to bring home a winner and gain a game in the standings on the red-hot Reds.

The Positives

- Allen Craig hit his 20th double and drove in one of the Cardinals three runs.
- Matt Holliday hit a single and his 27th double.
- Carlos Beltran hit his 18th double and scored a run.
- David Freese hit two singles and drove in a run.
- Yadier Molina hit a single and his 20th double. His stolen base streak ends at three games as he was caught stealing.
- Jon Jay reached base on a walk and scored a run.
- Daniel Descalso hit two singles and his fifth triple of the season. His season line now sits at .250. He also scored a run and drove a run in.
- Kyle Lohse pitched six shutout innings and only allowed seven base runners.
- Edward Mujica, Mitchell Boggs, and Jason Motte combined for three scoreless innings to end the game. Motte struck out two in the ninth inning to earn his 24th save.

- The offense did just enough to pick up the win, but with seventeen men left on, they weren’t a very efficient unit.

2) David Freese – Freese added two hits of his own and drove in a run.
1) Daniel Descalso – Descalso was the star of the show for the Cardinals. He picked up three hits, scored a run, and drove in what ended up being the game winning run.
