Daily Rant: Freese powers Cardinals to a series win

The Cardinals took on the White Sox in the deciding third game of their three game set. The White Sox won the first game, while Lance Lynn shut down the Sox in game 2. With a series victory within their grasp, the Cardinals fell back on World Series star David Freese to lead them to a win. Freese wasn’t the only good performer, though. Find out more after the jump.

The Positives
- Rafael Furcal picked up a hit and kept his average hovering around the .300 mark.
- Yadier Molina and Matt Adams also picked up hits. Adams chipped in with two RBIs, while Yadi recorded his sixth steal of the season.
- Daniel Descalso, Allen Craig, and David Freese all had two hit nights. Descalso and Freese scored runs, while Craig scored three. Freese hit his thirteenth home run of the season in the third inning and drove in three runs.
- Jake Westbrook hurled a quality start. He lasted six innings, gave up five hits and three earned runs, and struck out one batter. He came close to getting out of the game untouched, but he gave up a home run to Adam Dunn in the sixth.
- Eduardo Sanchez, Victor Marte, and Mitchell Boggs pitched two scoreless innings to get the game into Jason Motte‘s hands.
- Motte pitched a perfect ninth inning to record his thirteenth save of the season.
Justin’s Jeers
- Matt Holliday and Adron Chambers were held hitless. Chambers now has a batting average below .200, while Holliday is batting .271.
- The team left thirteen runners on base, with Rafael Furcal leading the way with four runners left stranded. Furcal was also caught trying to steal a base.
Three Stars

2) Allen Craig – Craig had two hits and scored three of the Cardinals five runs.
1) David Freese – Freese’s thirteenth home run set the tone for the Cardinals.

Today’s Game
The Cardinals start the I-70 Series with the Kansas City Royals. They have a three game set at home against their cross-state rivals. The game is a homecoming for Carlos Beltran, who was originally drafted by the Royals seventeen years ago. In game one of the series, Kyle Lohse takes the mound for the Cardinals against Vin Mazzaro. Lohse has a 6-1 record and a 2.90 ERA, while Mazzaro has a 2-1 record and a 3.60 ERA. Game time is set for 7:15.
