The game was rained out almost immediately after it began. Miguel Batista was sent in as the Cardinals starter, he walked the first batter on four pitches, and the game was subsequently delayed for the next 2 or so hours.
Brandon Phillips provided the only HR and was by far public enemy number one in the city of St. Louis last night, the fans were not afraid to let him hear it. The Cardinals were sure not afraid to let them know just how much better of a team they are either.
Kyle McClellan had another strong outing himself, going 6 innings on 7 hits and two runs, bringing his season to 3-0 with a 2.16 ERA. Ryan Theriot had yet another strong showing, going 3 for 4, but Pujols and Berkman were the main run support for the Cardinals on the evening.
The closer role is still developing and Mitchell Boggs has been making his case for the job. In his second opportunity, he received his second save after 1.1 innings pitched, having only allowed 1 hit.
Game 2 is played tomorrow afternoon at 3:10 from Busch Stadium. The Cardinals will give the ball to Chris Carpenter to see if they can keep up this roll they have going as of late to try and widen this lead they now enjoy in the NL Central standings.
