Hopefully Adam Wainwright gets through the turnstiles this afternoon when he arrives at Busch Stadium to prepare for his start. It’s Opening Day in St. Louis and the city is abuzz with Redbirds baseball. The baseball loving town is firing up the grills, breaking out the hot dogs, and gearing up for another beautiful summer of St. Louis Cardinals baseball. Not only do Cards fans get treated to a game and a Wainwright performance, but they get to take a trip into baseball’s past.

Stan Musial will be there. So will Red Schoendienst. Bob Gibson…Check. The Wizard. Lou Brock and Bruce Sutter. All will be present wearing their bright red blazers to ring in the new season in St. Louis. Joining the Hall of Fame group will be Whitey Herzog, who will be inducted to the Hall this summer. What a sight to see today.

Herzog will be the center of attention to celebrate his induction. Adding to the Whiteyball party will be his 1985 club that lost to the Kansas City Royals in seven games. The focuse is on the good memories so we won’t delve into the sour ones from that year.

That is long gone. It’s in the past. Now, let’s enjoy a whole new season of Cardinals baseball.

May it live up to the tradition of 10 World Champions and the cast of Cards greats to be on the field today!
