Wainwright starts new season, Cards look to get another win
By Editorial Staff

It’s Adam Wainwright’s turn to “get ’em” as he takes the mound for the first time in 2010 tonight against the Reds. Ace No. 1 got the job done Opening Day with a lot of help from the offense. He went six innings and gave up two runs. Adam Wainwright will try to tie Carpenter in the win column for this season. He is coming off a Cy Young type season in which he won 19 games and baffled opponents with a big heater and devastating curve. Wainwright unveils that combo again tonight in Cincinnati. He hopes to make this season even better than last with a new air of confidence after his breakout year. Wainwright will battle Johnny Cueto, who had his moments in 2009 and is one of the great young arms in the game. I’m sure Wainwright and the Cards wouldn’t mind a tie for wins this year with Chris Carpenter. St. Louis is the only team (other than the Mariners, but Lee is hurt) with two aces good enough to win 20 games.
Carpenter has 19 left. Wainwright begins his quest for 20 at 6:10 CDT. The Cards look to make a statement right out of the gate as the dominant force of the NL Central.
