It’s Opening Day! Albert hits homer in first at bat of the season!

Cards baseball is officially underway in Cincinnati. Skip Schumaker and Brendan Ryan started things off with back to back strikeouts. Then, Albert Pujols stepped up and cranked a ball over the left centerfield wall. Looks like another season of greatness for the MVP. Cards up 1-0 heading into the bottom of the first. Check in after the game for my thoughts on this first day of the season.

ESPN’s catchy Opening Day poem. Welcome to the land of Baseball!

Let me show you a land
the greatest of all
with borders that stretch
from the spring to the fall

Emerald fields plush with diamonds
and pearls gleaming white
with meatballs becoming taters
soaring into the night

A land of hot corners
where hoses throw heat
into your kitchen
where there’s plenty to eat.

There’s pickles, there’s pepper
there’s peas, and there’s cheese
And shoestrings making catches
with the greatest of ease

Many eye-pleasing sights
also found on display
An ace that throws dueces,
a tailor-made double play

Ducks on a pond
wait for springing line drives
to hitch a ride home
on pop-ups and slides

This land welcomes all
to dream and to play
This land is Baseball,
It’s Opening Day.

It’s a beautiful sun-soaked afternoon in Cincy. And already, Albert created a pretty nice memory for this year’s opener with another home run in his brilliant career. It doesn’t get much better than this for Cards fans!
