A Day Off
By mikewest

Yesterday, the Cardinals ended the series against the Phillies with a 7-6 win in extra innings. It wasn’t pretty, but we’ll take it. Here’s the full recap and box score.
The wins keep adding up for the Redbirds, who now have the second best record in the National League at 42-29. They still trail the Cubs by 3.5 games. Out of the 23 series the Cards have played so far this season, they’ve lost only 3. That’s an amazing accomplishment for a team that many thought wouldn’t compete.
No game today. The Cardinals could use the day off, as several players are nursing some injuries. Catcher Yadier Molina was the latest to go down after a collision at the plate in yesterday’s game sent Molina to the hospital on a stretcher. Bernie Miklasz, of the St. Louis Post Dispatch, had an excellent article concerning Molina this morning. Find it here. According to Joe Strauss, Yadi is now out of the hospital, and will visit with team doctors tomorrow. Apparently the injury looked much worse than it actually was, which is great news for the already shorthanded ball club.
Up next, the Cardinals will host the Kansas City Royals in a three game, interleague series. Lee Hurwitz has a preview.
That’s it for now. I’ll have much more tomorrow before the game, so be sure to check back.
