The Springfield Cardinals should adopt this creative name after announced rebrand

On August 25th, the Springfield Cardinals announced a rebrand that would take place at the end of the 2026 season. This rebrand will include a new name, logos, and jerseys. The team already has their name picked, but I would like to offer a unique suggestion if possible.

The Springfield Cardinals have held that moniker since they were founded in 2005, but they'll make some dramatic changes before their 23rd year in existence.

The club has already renamed their stadium, opting to go with Route 66 Stadium as an homage to the famous highway that passes through the city. This rebrand is the next step in the franchise's transformation. With a new name, new logos, and new jerseys, the page to the future will officially be turned.

On the organization's frequently asked questions page, the club addresses several important issues. According to the page, the team name has already been changed. "Yes, the new name and identity has already been chosen and we’re excited to share that with everyone on Tuesday, October 6. We wanted an identity that represented our community. We considered our fan base heavily when choosing our new identity."

The website also states that trademark availability and other legal processes were taken into account when choosing a new name. Names like the Travelers, one used by the Arkansas Travelers, are likely out of bounds. Therefore, creativity while providing a nod to the city will be prioritized.

The Springfield Cardinals should name themselves the Queen City Cashews for their rebrand.

Springfield is also known as the Queen City. It was given this nickname since it is the Queen City of the Ozarks. Since the 1800s, Springfield has been the main commercial and cultural center of the Ozark region. It is essentially the royal city of the area.

Cashew chicken has deep roots in the area as well.

Springfield is the birthplace of Springfield-style cashew chicken. In 1963, Chinese-American chef David Leong opened Leong's Tea House in Springfield to help introduce Chinese foods to locals who were largely unfamiliar with the delicacy. His recipe, one that included Chinese-inspired sauce, green onions, and cashews, became a hit.

In their official announcement, the club stated "A new chapter of professional baseball in the Queen City of the Ozarks will begin in 2027." The organization using that nickname probably wasn't an accident.

This name combines key parts of the region's history while also being a bit goofy. With how off the walls some MiLB team names have become these days, Queen City Cashews is relatively calm. The mascot, however, would be hilarious.
