St. Louis Cardinals Don’t Waste Time

Well, that certainly didn’t take very long. Apparently the St. Louis Cardinals wanted to enjoy their upcoming off day.

In a game that took barely over two hours to complete, the Cardinals improved to 8-3 overall with a 2-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds at Busch Stadium.

St. Louis hasn’t lost in five games, dating back to an April 13 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers.

Here are some highlights from a quick game at Busch:

*Matt Carpenter put the Cardinals on the board with a home run early, and he went 2-for-4 to raise his batting average to an even .400.

*Matt Holliday and Jon Jay had the only other Cardinals hits. Reds pitcher Mike Leake limited St. Louis to just four hits while the Reds banged out eight hits.

And the play of the day?

*The play turned out to be a sacrifice fly by Kolten Wong that scored Jay with the game-winning run.

Adam Wainwright went eight innings with four strikeouts to pick up the win, and Jordan Walden got the save.

The Cardinals are off on Monday before they begin a six-game road series with three games at the Washington Nationals and three games at the Brewers.
