Like many people growing up, Berger dreamed of playing professional baseball. His dream was cut short due to a lack of talent and a high school coach that didn’t see his potential. He never thought he would compete at a higher level in baseball until he enrolled in a fantasy baseball camp at 57 years old.

Fantasy camps affords one with the opportunity to play as if he were in the major leagues. Of course, one must have the energy and the financial resources. The St. Louis Cardinals have such a camp with the proceeds going to benefit Mercy Hospital. The Cardinals camp can cost anywhere from $4500 to $6500, the latter having the chance to meet Hall of Famers.

Berger had the chance to suit up, train, and play at the same places where baseball greats such as Roberto Clemente, Al Kaline and Derek Jeter did so for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Detroit Tigers, and New York Yankees, respectively.

It’s a good look at the experience one can get from attending a fantasy baseball camp–and not one in which you play at a computer with friends or random strangers.
