Welcome to tonight’s game thread!

Yesterday was an absolute nail biter (bases loaded and no outs???)!!! John Axford and Carlos Martinez both game through huge for the Cardinals, so they deserve a good round of applause.

Edward Mujica, on the other hand, looked bad. Matheny needs to evaluate how he’s using him. Maybe he just needs some rest, but maybe he needs something else. Hopefully he can get himself pulled together in the next eight games, because St. Louis will need him in the playoffs.

Tonight, Lance Lynn and Yovani Gallardo face off in-game two of the 3-game series. Gallardo hasn’t been a great pitcher this year, but he really doesn’t handle himself well around the Cardinals. He’s faced St. Louis twice this season and is 0-1 with a 7.15 ERA in those starts. Thankfully, we know that the Cardinals can kill him.

Lynn, on the other hand, is in the midst of an upswing. After five consecutive starts in which he gave up 4 or more earned runs, he’s only given up 2 earned runs in his last two outings. One of those starts was against the Brewers, where he gave up only 1 unearned run in 6 innings while striking out 10.

With any luck at all, this game won’t be quite as stressful as last night. In fact, I’m hoping for a good old-fashioned blow out. Let’s go Cards!!!
