Welcome back to the game thread!

After last night’s rout of the Rockies (marred only by the poor outing from Carlos Martinez), the Cardinals are again atop the division. In addition, after the Braves’ two losses against the Nats, St. Louis is only one game out from having the best record in the NL (home seeding all the way up to the World Series).

As seems to be the trend, after a few off nights, the bats really came alive last night, putting up 11 runs. Matt Carpenter, Jon Jay, Matt Holliday, Yadier Molina, Matt Adams, David Freese, and Daniel Descalso all had at least two hits. It was very fun to watch.

Kelly had another stellar performance, but was pulled in the fifth due to a little stumble he had on the mound. Although he didn’t appear to be injured, there was no reason to push him with a 10-run lead.

Tonight the Rockies put their fate in the hands of Tyler Chatwood. He’s 7-4 with a 3.20 ERA so far this season, but has an 0-1 record and a 9.00 ERA in his career against St. Louis. That said, he’s also never started a game against the Cardinals. Hopefully he’s as bad beginning a game against the Redbirds as he has been in the middle.

The Cardinals turn to staff ace Adam Wainwright. He’s going for his 17th win tonight, and looks to keep the Cardinals ahead of the Pirates (and maybe even give them a 2-game lead; wouldn’t that be crazy).

So if the offense can keep it going and Waino can shut down the Rockies, the Cardinals should be able to pull out a victory!

Let’s go St. Louis!!!
