It was the 4th loss for Wainwright this season. Despite the 4 runs, Wainwright pitched 7 innings in last night’s game. He allowed 7 hits, 4 runs, and 3 strikeouts. He gave up back to back home runs in the first inning.

The Cardinals got on the board in the 6th inning when Carlos Beltran hit a solo shot to right field. It was his 17th home run of the season and 351st of his career. This now moves him into 5th place all-time amongst switch-hitters as he passed Chili Davis.

Things got rather interesting in the 9th inning. Following a Beltran ground out, Matt Holliday and Allen Craig hit back to back singles. Yadier Molina stepped up to the plate following a pitching change. He singled and drove in Holliday.

After Molina was replaced by pinch-runner Shane Robinson, it was thought that the Cardinals would work their 9th inning comeback magic. With runners on first and second, David Freese stepped up to bat. Unfortunately, Shane Robinson was called out for player interference, which meant an automatic double play to end the inning.

It just wasn’t the Cardinals day.
