Jon Jay drove in Shane Robinson on a single up the middle to give the St. Louis Cardinals the 7-6 lead in the top of the ninth inning with one out. Edward Mujica would take care of the bottom frame with a three up-three down inning to pick up his 8th save of the season in 8 oppportunities.

Unless he starts to have problems, I expect that Mujica will stay in the closer’s role throughout the rest of the 2013 season with yesterday’s news that Jaso May 4, 2013; Milwaukee, WI, USA; St. Louis Cardinals center fielder Jon Jay drives in the winning run with single in the 9th inning during the game against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park. Since taking over as closer in the middle of April, Mujica has only allowed 2 runs to score–both coming on May 1st and 2nd.

After being benched for a few games, David Freese has slowly awakened at the plate. He had a good day yesterday and today, the third baseman had a 2 for 3 day, raising his batting average to .233 and scoring one of the Cardinals 7 runs today.

While Jon Jay’s batting average isn’t where it should be, the centerfielder drove in four of the Cardinals runs, including the game-winning RBI in the top of the ninth.

Daniel Descalso displayed some power today and hit his first home run of the season in the 7th inning.

Seth Maness earned his first career Major League win since being called up to the Cardinals.
