Adam Wainwright took the bump for the Birdinals in St. Louis today and impressed teammates and fans for the second straight weekend.  As he and the rest of the home team donned the most recent and nostalgic duds, they started a new chapter in Cardinals history.  It was fitting that it was a day after Stan Musial was honored that jerseys like his were both on the field and all over the sell out stadium.  From the unique L in Louis, to the stripe down the pant legs, the new look is fitting.

The two eras that made St. Louis today’s second most winning team in Major League Baseball were the late 30’s and 40’s.  Those famed teams with Dizzy and Ducky and Stan and Red all had similar getups to what took the field under the Arch today.  It is great to pay hommage to a time that defines the organization, instead of going to the 70’s/80’s powder blue that are not old enough to throw back, yet.

Turn back the clock to a time when pitchers threw well over one hundred pitches and finished what they started.  Travel back to a game where pitchers could hit and score to help themselves.  Go back to a time when Cardinals didn’t appear on the uniform by name, only in illustration.  It was a privilege to see  that vintage Cardinals class in Adam Wainwright and the studs behind him today.

All is well in St. Louis as fans can prepare to bring their brooms to Busch tomorrow!
