Message to Cardinals fans: It’s going to be OK!

Things haven’t gone the Cardinals way this season. The year started off on a down note with the news of Chris Carpenter’s now season-ending injury. Numerous injuries and inconsistent play have resulted in the Cardinals sitting in third place behind the surging Reds and upstart Pirates. While the Cardinals are looking up at the other two teams in the standings, there is room for encouragement and it lies with Lady Luck.

Luck is an annoying thing. You never seem to get good luck when you need it. That’s been the case for the Cardinals this season. They have obviously never had their full pitching staff intact and they’ve had their entire offensive unit for about two weeks total. However that hasn’t stopped them from being the top offensive team in the league and the second best rotation statistically. While the Cardinals results haven’t come through, the numbers show that they should be sporting a better record than they do and the standings may correct themselves down the stretch.

As you can see, based on their actual stats, the Cardinals were the third best team in only one month and actually lead the way in the first and second halves. The whole point of this diatribe is that certain fans, including some Redbird Rants writers (ahem, David Jenkins) need to relax. This season is far from over.
