Another strong offensive outburst leads the red hot Cardinals on to take the first game of the series

Complete Recap

By Jaime Garcia’s recent statistics, the first game of the Dodgers series was a bit of an off day. He was pulled after 5 innings, giving up 8 hits and 2 earned runs, bringing his season stats to 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA.

To say that is an off day for anyone is absurd I understand.

The Cardinals started off the series the very same way they ended it in the desert, on their game. This game was not incredibly productive for Albert personally, but he makes the highlight reel with his second HR of the season in yet another game full of Cardinal offense.

Pujols is now batting .226 on the season overall, but that means nothing as he has enjoyed a nice little stint of hitting these last few days as he begins to chip at the awful batting average he started off with.

All of the starting 8 positional players had at least a hit today and everyone not named Pujols seemed yet again the unsung hero of this game.

Look at the season batting averages for the others at this point:

Ryan Theriot: .314
Colby Rasmus: .377
Matt Holliday: .391
Lance Berkman: .311
Skip Schumaker: .260
Yadier Molina: .189
Daniel Descalso: .286

I know it gets a little muddier closer to the bottom, but a perfect lineup at all times is hard to ask for.

Yadier was benched in the finale against the Diamondbacks to combat his slow start this season and it looks to have worked, well, at least for today. He went 2-4 with 2 RBIs and a double.
