The St. Louis Cardinals are in desperate need of a quality left-handed bullpen arm. Who could they pursue out of house?

The Giants have often damaged the St. Louis Cardinals’ chances of postseason play but perhaps 2019 will be the time when the Giants help the Cards by sending them a lefty arm.

Throughout Tony Watson’s career, he has been very solid with Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. During the offseason, the Giants snagged Watson for a 2-year/$7m contract. The Giants did not perform as they had expected this season, finishing under .500 for the second time in a row.

It might finally be time for the Giants to rebuild, as they are not the powerhouse they were in the early-2010s.

Watson could be a big name in trade talks this offseason, and there’s a reason why. He finished 2018 with a very solid 2.63 ERA and a 1.046 WHIP. If the Giants decide to tear it down, he could be worth a lot, maybe even a solid prospect. The 33-year-old would be an excellent presence in the St. Louis Cardinals bullpen who has had a sub-4.00 ERA season every year since joining the MLB.
