Chris Carpenter is competitive and he demands the best from his teammates when he’s on the hill. The story has been told countless times over the last few years. Carp is nuts when he’s out there and it’s that fire that makes him great.
This story isn’t about that Carpenter. This story is about flat out disrespect to a teammate.
During Monday night’s game in Cincinnati, Carpenter showed up Cardinals shortstop Brendan Ryan. The St. Louis ace took Ryan aside in the dugout to scold him for delaying the game in the bottom of the first inning just as he was about [...]

Chris Carpenter was a force on the hill until June 28 when he was hit in the forearm by a line drive. He was 9-1 with a 2.63 ERA and well on his way to another Cy Young worthy season. Since the stroke of bad luck though, the loss column and ERA grew, while the win column remained stuck in neutral.
And so goes the story for Carpenter. It’s a story that we’ve seen before for the Cards ace. This season has been a microcosm of his career in St. Louis.
Spectacular when he’s healthy. But health has always been a concern. [...]
The St. Louis Cardinals have been frustrating in an up-and-down first half of the 2010 season and at times embarrassing according to one St. Louis baseball expert.
The All-Star Game selections were a surprising highlight for this struggling Cardinals team. St. Louis tied the Atlanta Braves with five selections for the most in the National League. Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina were voted in by the fans as starters. Pujols led the league in voting for the second straight year despite a ho-hum first half. It will be his ninth consecutive All-Star appearance. Molina, hitting .231, benefited from fan voting and his [...]
Saturday’s game was a forgettable one for Chris Carpenter and the St. Louis Cardinals. The team is surely looking forward to a new day and another game.
Carpenter hit a batter with the bases loaded, a rare occurrence in baseball let alone coming from one of the game’s top pitchers. But it was that kind of day for him and his teammates.
Carpenter served up nine hits that translated into eight runs in only three innings to Milwaukee. The Brewers never looked back in route to a 12-5 win. It was his worst start in five years and one of his shortest [...]
The St. Louis Cardinals dropped their third straight game and the seventh in nine games thanks largely in part to Bud Norris. The Houston Astros pitcher went eight innings, gave up one run, and struck out eight to continue his dominance of the Redbirds. In four career starts, he has only allowed one run to St. Louis. The lone run came today after Houston had a comfortable 4-0 lead in the seventh. The final tally was 4-1.
The Cards struggles leave them with a measly half-game lead in the division over the Cincinnati Reds. Before this slide, St. Louis was tied [...]
Some players huddle around a television set to watch “Black Sheep” for some laughs courtesy comedy kings Chris Farley and David Spade. Others focus on an exciting card game that elicits loud banter as the winner triumphantly circles the clubhouse.
This was the scene in the Cardinals clubhouse before the team took the field in Philadelphia to face the two-time defending National League champions. The stakes were pretty high for a series in May and the Cards were just relaxing. This Cards team has a special feel to it. These guys get it.
The chemistry is there. The talent is there.
Now, they [...]
All winter, the Cardinals were looking to add a final piece to the puzzle. The team they had assembled was a talented group in all phases of the game. But something was missing. There were holes in the Redbird armor. They lacked depth in key areas and still needed a threat off the bench.
All winter, the answer seemed obvious. Felipe Lopez. He played in St. Louis before. He could play multiple defensive positions and play them well. And he was a good hitter who consistently made contact. But as Spring Training neared, the answer was becoming more and more of [...]
It’s Adam Wainwright’s turn to “get ‘em” as he takes the mound for the first time in 2010 tonight against the Reds. Ace No. 1 got the job done Opening Day with a lot of help from the offense. He went six innings and gave up two runs. Adam Wainwright will try to tie Carpenter in the win column for this season. He is coming off a Cy Young type season in which he won 19 games and baffled opponents with a big heater and devastating curve. Wainwright unveils that combo again tonight in Cincinnati. He hopes to make this [...]
Empty. It’s the best way to some up the feeling surrounding the Syracuse basketball season. After a brilliant run through the Big East and to a No. 1 ranking, it’s all over. Poof. The six-month long season ended in a matter of 40 minutes Thursday. The Orange put together a sloppy performance and was upset by the Butler Bulldogs. A season that could have been so much is now finished. The players and fans were left in disbelief. With Syracuse’s basketball season over, there’s only one thing left to look forward to this semester: baseball.
As one season comes to a [...]
Stephen Strasburg continued to impress Sunday at Viera, Fla., in a Grapefruit League matchup with the Cardinals. The rookie sensation threw three shutout innings using a sharp fastball in the mid-90s to keep the Cards at bay early. His spring totals are now pushed to five shutout innings, just four hits, four strikeouts, and plenty of excitement in the nation’s capital. St. Louis broke free when Strasburg left the game to win 7-3.
It will certainly be hard to convince the Nationals fan base that Strasburg shouldn’t be the opening day starter, let alone on the staff. It seems like a [...]
