Fans can select two players to be inducted into the Cardinals Hall of Fame on Saturday, August 15th. The ballot includes Steve Carlton, Bob Forsch, Keith Hernandez, Mark McGwire, Matt Morris, Edgar Renteria, Ted Simmons and Joe Torre.

The eight modern ballot nominees were selected by a Red Ribbon committee of St. Louis baseball experts during a secret ballot process two months ago. Voting will run through April 20th at cardinals.com/HOF. The two players receiving the most votes will be inducted in a formal enshrinement ceremony taking place in August during the 2015 Cardinals Hall of Fame Induction Weekend.

“Induction into the Cardinals Hall of Fame is one of the highest honors the team can bestow,” St. Louis Cardinals Chairman and CEO Bill DeWitt Jr. said in a statement. “We think it is appropriate to have some of the best, most knowledgeable fans in the game of baseball choose the Cardinals players who will be part of this class.”

The Cardinals established the Hall of Fame to recognize those players with exceptional careers and significant achievements during their time wearing the Birds on the Bat. To be eligible, players must have suited up for at least three seasons with the Cardinals and be retired as a player from Major League Baseball for three years. Veteran players are categorized as those who retired more than 40 years prior to the induction year.

The Red Ribbon committee elected a veteran player to be inducted and independent of the Red Ribbon panel, the Cardinals can choose to induct an individual who served as an important figure in team history whether they were a coach, broadcaster or member of the front office. This second class will be announced in a pregame ceremony on Thursday, April 30th.

Those inducted are permanently enshrined in the Cardinals Hall of Fame Gallery presented by Edward Jones. The Hall of Fame Gallery, which is free and open to the public, can be found on the second floor of Cardinals Nation in Ballpark Village, just outside of the team’s museum entrance. Matthews International produces the plaques.

The 2015 Cardinals Hall of Fame “Red Ribbon” Selection Panel consists of Tom Ackerman, Frank Cusumano, Derrick Goold, Whitey Herzog, Rick Hummel, Randy Karraker, Martin Kilcoyne, Jenifer Langosch, Tony La Russa, Bernie Miklasz, Joe Ostermeier, Rob Rains, Red Schoendienst, Joe Strauss and Brian Walton.
