At CardinalsFarm, Dan Buffa wonders as to whether left-handed starting pitcher Jaime Garcia is a secret weapon or an ultimate liability. It’s a question that many of us are wondering ourselves about the pitcher. There’s no question that Garcia’s days on the Cardinals are numbered. What Garcia makes of those remaining days is up in the air for now.

Chris Carpenter is not sure what the next chapter in his life will bring him. He was recently inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame and spoke with the Springfield News-Leader in a phone interview.

Stan McNeal writes that first baseman/outfielder Mark Reynolds brings both power and humor to the Cardinals.

"“It was the right situation. The Cardinals are a team I’ve respected for a long time,” Reynolds said. “After I got off the phone with Mike (Matheny), it was a no-brainer for me to come here. We share a lot of the same beliefs and I know a bunch of guys on the team. It was almost too good to be true. I’m willing to accept that for what this.”"

Reynolds is fully aware that his contact rate is not what made him a Cardinals player during the offseason.

Also at CardinalsFarm, Corey Rudd gives us five reasons as to why third baseman Matt Carpenter is worth every dime. Corey responds to an article that lists Carpenter’s contract as the worst on the Cardinals. What’s worse is that the writer (not Corey, the other one) didn’t even take into account Allen Craig‘s foot injury during the 2014 season.

Keith Law ranks all 40 farm systems in baseball. Law ranks the Cardinals minor league organization in 13th place saying that “you’d have to go down to rookie ball to find a potential star in the system.” In any event, Scott Schook writes at CardinalsFarm on how the Cardinals will finish the year with another top five farm system.
