Former St. Louis Cardinals Make Hall of Fame Ballot
A group of former St. Louis Cardinals made the Hall of Fame Ballot that has some real shoe-ins.
Lee Smith and Mark McGwire make the ballot again. Last year, Lee Smith received 29.9% and Mark McGwire received 11.0%.
McGwire will probably never make the hall as a player unless there was a huge asterik on everything. No matter your feelings that he and Sammy Sosa brought back baseball in the summer of 1998 with their epic home run battle. While you still have to have the skill to hit the ball that far, both men are clouded in the stench of PED usage and lying about it. Unfortunate.

Smith on the other hand should get in because getting that many saves is amazing. Plus. Didn’t he have the best facial expression when he was on the mound!
Larry Walker, who had 10.2% of the vote on last years ballot, was with the Cardinals for only a little while after several years with the Colorado Rockies. I enjoyed his time with the Cards as he was a mid-season trade meant to bolster the roster. And he did just that!
Other multi-year balloters include Craig Biggio, Mike Piazza, Jeff Bagwell, Tim Raines, Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds, Curt Schilling, Edgar Martinez, Alan Trammell, Mike Mussina, Jeff Kent, Fred McGriff, Don Mattingly and Sammy Sosa.
McGriff, Biggio and Bagwell should get in. Schilling probably should too, although the 2004 World Series sock thing still irks me. The others are kind of meh though.
New ballot members include Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, John Smoltz, Carlos Delgado, Gary Sheffield, Nomar Garciaparra, Troy Percival, Rich Aurilia, Aaron Boone, Tony Clark, Jermaine Dye, Darin Erstad, Cliff Floyd, Brian Giles, Tom Gordon, Eddie Guardado and Jason Schmidt.
Former Cardinals include John Smoltz and Troy Percival. Smoltz had an amazing career with the Braves and Percival was good for the Angels.
Smoltz, Randy Johnson and probably Pedro are shoe-ins. Sheffield will hopefully get in. The others are kind of meh but I mostly get their consideration.
Decisions on who gets in are weeks away. So, just take in this list and let it settle. You’ll be hearing more than you ever wanted about it, I’m sure!
