Taveras’ third home run of the season proved to be the game-winning home run for the Cardinals when he drove in second baseman Kolten Wong in a three-run fourth inning. Batting before Taveras, Wong doubled home Jhonny Peralta to break a 2-2 tie game.

In the first inning, the Cardinals got an early lead when Matt Adams homered and drove in third baseman Matt Carpenter.

After giving up two runs in the bottom of the first inning, Lynn seemed to get into gear until getting into a jam in the fourth inning. After a battle with Jean Segura, the bases were loaded the Brewers sent up Matt Clark as a pinch-hitter. Clark flied out to Jon Jay to end the inning.

Lynn pitched six solid innings Saturday night for another quality start. He allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits. Lynn walked four and struck out six batters. With earning his 15th win of the season, Lynn joined Detroit Tigers pitcher and St. Louis native Max Scherzer in having won 15 games in three consecutive seasons.

Sam Freeman and Carlos Martinez combined to pitch the seventh and eighth innings. Freeman struck out a batter. Martinez allowed a hit and struck out three batters.

Pitching the ninth inning, Trevor Rosenthal earned his 43rd save of the season. He allowed a hit and struck out a batter. Rosenthal and Craig Kimbrel are tied on top of the leader board in the saves category.

In former Cardinals news, Albert Pujols recorded the 1,500th run of his career when he hit his 25th home run of the season. Later in the evening, Pujols’ two-run double just happened to be his 2,500th career hit. He’s the 98th player in baseball history to reach the milestone.

The Cardinals are now in their third season with Pujols, who signed as a free agent with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Reaching milestones this season, Pujols is only the sixteenth player to record 500 home runs, 2,500 hits, and 1,500 runs scored. Add on the fact that he’s one of fourteen players that have hit 25 home runs or more in at least 13 seasons.
