Despite the valiant efforts by Lance Lynn, the St. Louis Cardinals were shut out 3-0 by Tampa Bay Rays.
Lynn had a strong outing but picked up his seventh loss of the season after the offense failed to give him run support. In 6.1 innings pitched, the Indiana native allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits. Lynn walked three and struck out seven.
In other news, the Cardinals will have the third selection of next years Competitive Balance portion of the 2015 MLB Draft. This portion follows the compensation picks and precedes the second round of the draft. This year, the Cardinals owned a Competitive Balance pick following the second round and drafted Andrew Morales.
“I think we accomplished what the goal was from the beginning of ‘let’s get him some rest,’” manager Mike Matheny said in an MLB.com article. “He’s had a nice little period here to get himself right and strong and feeling good. Now we have to get him out on the mound and watch him get the consistency.”
