On Getaway Thursday, the St. Louis Cardinals swept the Arizona Diamondbacks with a 4-2 win for the first sweep of the season.

How good it must feel to see the Cardinals with their first series sweep of the season. At times, it felt as if this point would never arrive but it finally did.

Lance Lynn did a solid job over six innings. The Indiana native pitched six innings and limited the Diamondbacks to two runs on seven hits. He walked one batter and struck out six batters. While Lynn did not get a decision on Thursday night, the former Ole Miss pitcher now posts a 3.60 ERA.

Pat Neshek picked up his first win of the season as the Cardinals took the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. Neshek allowed one hit in two innings, striking out two batters.

Trevor Rosenthal pitched the ninth inning for his 14th save of the season. Rosenthal struck out one batter and now posts a 4.56 ERA.

Cardinals manager Mike Matheny changed up the lineup on Thursday night. Kolten Wong and Matt Adams were available off the bench as Mark Ellis and Shane Robinson got the start at second base and right field. Allen Craig got in some reps at first base–something that will become common once the Oscar Taveras era officially starts.

With Robinson getting the start, he made the most of it. The right fielder had three hits in four at bats. Robinson’s double in the sixth inning scored both Craig and Jhonny Peralta. Craig and Peralta both had two-hit nights for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals had a chance to blow it all open in the second inning. With the bases loaded, Lance Lynn grounded into a force out to end the inning.

A double from Allen Craig in the seventh inning gave the Cards a 3-2 lead when Matt Holliday crossed the plate.

In the eighth inning, Matt Carpenter drove in Robinson on an RBI single.

The Cardinals next head to Cincinnati where Saturday and Sunday will be nationally televised.
