St. Louis Cardinals place Joe Kelly on DL

One day after exiting the game, the St. Louis Cardinals placed Joe Kelly on the 15-day disabled list. The official reason given by the club was a strained left hamstring. Kelly was injured while bunting on Wednesday against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The team also optioned right-handed relief pitcher Keith Butler to the Memphis Redbirds (AAA).
As a result of both of these moves, the club recalled pitchers Eric Fornataro and Jorge Rondon. Fornataro is 1-0 this season at Memphis with one save. He’s allowed one hit in five innings. His first appearance out of the bullpen will be his major league debut. The Cardinals selected Fornataro out of Miami Dade Community College with the 185th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2006 draft.
Rondon signed by the Cardinals in July 2006 as an international free agent. He is an alumnus of the Cardinals former Venezuelan Summer League team. During the 2013 season, he led all Memphis pitchers with 51 appearances. In five appearances for Memphis in 2014, Rondon has allowed three runs in five innings of work. His first major league appearance this season will also be his debut.
These moves follow roster moves made earlier this week when Mark Ellis was activated from the 15-day DL. With Ellis returning, Pete Kozma was optioned down to Memphis.
