When it comes to Spring Training 2014, the St. Louis Cardinals pitchers and catchers are not going to be waiting until Wednesday to report. Some players arrived before the weekend and others, like Kolten Wong, are there right now.

On Saturday, there were plenty of guys hanging out and throwing to each other at Roger Dean Stadium.

Wong didn’t even have to report until next week but he went ahead and made the long trip from his home state of Hawaii to start adjusting to the time change. He took some time to explain his new tattoo and tribute to his mother, who passed away from cancer. Wong told reporters from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that the tribute is a cancer ribbon, saying that it’s “a tribute to her so I’ll always have her with me.”

Remember when the national media, from an overall perspective, gave no love to the Cardinals? That’s changed, according to Gordo, as several baseball writers have the Cardinals ranked #1 including MLB.com columnist Anthony Castrovince, ESPN.com blogger David Schoenfield, and SI.com blogger Cliff Corcoran.

That’s right. The Cardinals, not the 2013 World Series champions Boston Red Sox, are entering the season #1 in the eyes of the national media.
