Waino said as much when he addressed the St. Louis sports media this past weekend during the Winter Warm-Up. The pitcher jokes that he wanted 2-time Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw to have a bad start and open the door for the longtime Cardinal to receive the award.

In fact, Kershaw will run the Los Angeles-based fantasy football league for Waino’s World next year. Detroit Tigers pitcher and St. Louis native, Max Scherzer, will do the same in Detroit. Other major league cities are expected to be involved next season.

Wainwright was asked about the gap in the annual average salaries between his contract and Kershaw’s.

"“The contract that he signed is amazing. There is no doubt about it,” Wainwright said. “I’ve got two rings already. Great memories here. My favorite color is red now. I just feel like I bleed Cardinal red. There is no other color I want to wear.”"

Wainwright is exactly the right type of pitcher that Cardinals fans love to root for.

In addition to Kershaw, Waino will be competing with Shelby Miller and Michael Wacha next season for the Cy Young Award
