According to Ken Rosenthal, the St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are in talks to trade David Freese.

This past season, Freese hit .262/.340/.381 with nine home runs but he also started the season on the Disabled List following an injury in Spring Training. One of the highlights of the 2013 season for the third baseman was a hitting streak that occurred during the months of May and June. Freese’s struggles at the plate came a year following a breakout 2012 season, where Freese hit 293/.372/.467 and slugged 20 home runs in 144 games.

The MLB Network insider tweeted this morning:

There is not much speculation out there as to which player that the Cardinals would get in return but Angels shortstop Erick Aybar is signed through the end of 2016. Given that he’s a free agent after three more seasons, Aybar is not attractive as a potential Cardinals shortstop candidate.

Freese is a prime candidate to move this offseason due to the rise of Kolten Wong at second baseman and Matt Carpenter being able to slide over to third base.

Given the depth of Cardinals pitching, the Angels might want the Cardinals to throw in an arm or two thrown in but a need at the moment seems to be at third base.
