By Baseball America, we really mean St. Louis Post-Dispatch beat writer Derrick Goold.

Today, the Top 10 prospects in the St. Louis Cardinals organization were revealed. Some names were not there from last season while other names remain.

There should be no surprise that the top ten prospects entering the 2014 season are pitchers. As the team continues to search for a shortstop, don’t be surprised to find some of the players listed on another organization next year. Given the team’s depth at pitching, there are plenty of players that could be used as trade bait.

TOP 10 PROSPECTS
1. Oscar Taveras, of
2. Carlos Martinez, rhp
3. Kolten Wong, 2b
4. Stephen Piscotty, of
5. Marco Gonzales, lhp
6. Tim Cooney, lhp
7. Alex Reyes, rhp
8. James Ramsey, of
9. Rob Kaminsky, lhp
10. Carson Kelly, 3b/c

This is the second season in a row that Taveras is listed as the club’s top prospect. I don’t expect him to be on top for a third season in a row entering the 2015 season.

New to the prospects page this year is the Top 15 Players 25 and Under at any level of the club. There’s no surprise who is number one on that list: Michael Wacha. A few 2013 draft picks are on that list–mainly Gonzales and Kaminsky.
