PostCards: 2013 NLDS Game 3 – St. Louis Cardinals at Pittsburgh Pirates

Well, because I don’t subscribe to MLB Network, I didn’t have an opportunity to watch the disaster that was Lance Lynn. But the score sure wasn’t pretty. Today, the Cardinals desperately need to turn their offense on and actually beat Francisco Liriano.

You’ve already heard it: Liriano is 3-0 with a disgusting 0.75 ERA this year against the Cardinals. It looks grim for the Cardinal hitters.

Luckily, we get to use our (not-so-)secret weapon: Joe Kelly. He’s been very good this year, but has also handled the Pirates well, going 3-1 with a 2.53 ERA against them in 6 appearances (3 starts). Even at PNC Kelly has held his own, posting a 2-0 record with an 0.69 ERA in 3 appearances (2 starts) on Pirate turf.

Basically, we have to hope that Kelly is as good as he can be and handles the postseason pressure well, while Liriano suffers a bad outing (and he’s had a few this year). If our offense can get fired up and silence that loud Pittsburgh crowd, I think the Cardinals could have a good shot at taking NLDS Game 3.

I certainly hope so, ’cause I don’t want to start the do-or-die any earlier than we have to.

Let’s go St. Louis!!!

    Now let’s go Redbirds!

  • Ovadia

    Here we go!

  • Ovadia

As much as I love hearing Busch roar, I almost love it more when we silence a crowd on the road.

  • Ovadia

So let’s hear that glorious silence. Start us off, Matt.

  • Ovadia

Come on, Carp. Way to work the count, stud.

  • Ovadia

Carp down on strikes. I do not hear silence.

  • Ovadia

Beltran grounds out. Way to run hard, Carlos.

  • Ovadia

Alright, didn’t get him in the first. Now let’s go Joe!

  • Ovadia

Poor sportsmanship out of the Pirates fans. Card fans don’t have to heckle opposing teams and players. We just let them look at those flags in the outfield. Too bad PNC doesn’t have too many to point to.

  • Ovadia

Oof. Tough call on the outside part of the plate.

  • Ovadia

    McCutchen walks.

  • Ovadia

An inch off the plate is apparently going to be a strike in this game. Yadi needs to set up there all night long.

  • Ovadia

Swinging strike on a good pitch by Kelly. 2-2 count.

  • Ovadia

3-2 count. Got to get him Kelly. Got to.

  • Ovadia

Error by Kozma. 2nd and 3rd for the Pirates.

  • Ovadia

Alright. Calm down and handle Byrd. Let’s go.

  • Ovadia

2-0 Pirates. This game does not look good.

  • Ovadia

    And I hate Marlon Byrd.

  • Ovadia

Kelly strikes out Alvarez. 2-0 Pirates. Now we need some runs.

  • Ovadia

Yadi out on a ground ball to short.

  • Ovadia

    Freese down on strikes.

  • Ovadia

Kelly again gets the first two outs of the inning quickly.

  • Ovadia

    And now he walks Liriano.

  • Ovadia

And out of the inning. On to the bottom of the second.

  • Ovadia

    Alright, let’s go Pete.

  • Ovadia

PETE KOZMA RIPS A DOUBLE!!! Come on Joe Kelly, let’s go!

  • Ovadia

Slightly unusual that Joe Kelly’s swinging away here, but I’m ok with it. Pete runs well.

  • Ovadia

    1-2 count to Kelly.

  • Ovadia

Kelly strikes out, Koz stays at third.

  • Ovadia

Let’s go Carpenter. We need a hit and a run, here.

  • Ovadia

Carp gets hit square in the back. First and second for Carlos Beltran.

  • Ovadia

I love Pete Kozma’s base running.

  • Ovadia

Beltran waves at one. 2-2, runners on first and third.

  • Ovadia

    Carlos takes it, 3-2.

  • Ovadia

Foul ball, we’ll do it again.

  • Ovadia

    Again.

  • Ovadia

Walks him, bases loaded for Matt Holliday. Now how clutch are you?

  • Ovadia

    0-1 on a nasty slider.

  • Ovadia

Long fly ball reaches Byrd’s mitt. They strand the bases loaded.

  • Ovadia

Also, I hate TBS’ coverage. “The Cardinals know what they want to do against Liriano, they just can’t execute,” they say after Liriano loads the bases.

  • Ovadia

What a play by Adams! Phenomenal!

  • Ovadia

Pretty good for the guy that TBS thinks can’t play first.

  • Ovadia

Molina rips one right to Barmes. Well hit.

  • Ovadia

Another hard hit ball, right at Byrd. Just need to hit some gaps.

  • Ovadia

To the bottom of the fourth.

  • Ovadia

    Base hit for Jon Jay!

  • Ovadia

Walks Kozma! Now we just need Kelly to bunt them over.

  • Ovadia

1-0. Kelly can’t sac that one.

  • Ovadia

    1-1.

  • Ovadia

    1-2 count. Come on, Kelly.
