PostCards: 2013 NLDS Game 2 – St. Louis Cardinals vs. Pittsburgh Pirates

The St. Louis Cardinals host the Pittsburgh Pirates this afternoon at 1 PM/12 PM (Central) exclusively on the MLB Network. In addition to the MLB Network, Cardinals fans can listen to the game on the St. Louis Cardinals Radio Network. ESPN Radio will also have audio coverage of the game.

Lance Lynn will take the mound against Pirates rookie Gerrit Cole. Lynn had a rocky second half of the season and finished the year with a 15-10 record with a 3.97 ERA. In 16 home games, Lynn went 9-3 with a 2.82 ERA–far better than the 5.15 ERA on the road. Against the Pirates, however, Lynn has a 2-1 record with a 5.60 ERA over 5 start.

For Cole, this will be the first time that he will face the Cardinals in his MLB career.

The Cards got to A.J. Burnett very early yesterday. The pitcher gave up seven runs in the third inning without an out. Was he trying to do his best impression of Carlos Marmol? With the seven-run third inning, the Cards set a new NLDS record for runs scored in an inning.

Adam Wainwright pitched 7 strong innings to help the Cards take Game 1. He allowed 3 hits, 1 run, and struck out 9 batters. Only Carlos Martinez and Trevor Rosenthal saw any work out of the bullpen.

With his performance yesterday David Freese has now driven in 27 runs in 32 postseason games. In doing so, he ties Molina for third place in franchise history with 27 RBI a piece. Ahead of them are Albert Pujols (52) and Jim Edmonds (41).

The Cards set a NLDS record with their seven-run third inning, one shy of the MLB-record eight-run fifth the Angels put up in 2002.

Just heard Wacha gets game 4 and Miller is long man out of pen this series.

    • Ovadia

Very cool. I hope we don’t even need a game four. I’d like to assert our dominance with a sweep.

  • Daniel Solzman

Chris Carpenter with the first pitch to a loud ovation.

  • Daniel Solzman

    We’re underway.

  • Mike King

Done with lunch, can chat now. :) That was big confidence booster for Lynn I think. Gave up the hit but then did not blow up. Oh yea the two Ks did not hurt either.

  • Daniel Solzman

Beltran smashed that to the wall

  • Mike King

Holliday and Adams just missed those. I am very encouraged for our 2nd time thru the order.

    JJ horrible play!

Now we see what Lynn is made of. Should be out of inning already.

Lynn has started his last game in post season for the Cardinals.

      • Daniel Solzman

He’s always had a spotty second half. We saw it last year, too.

        • Mike King

Very true. I think he gets dealt in the offseason or gets moved to the bullpen.

  • Mike King

Not a good sign, Carp is 1-7 so far…

  • Mike King

He looks scared out there, the fact we don’t have Miller in the game already is horrible managing.

  • Daniel Solzman

Lynn done for the day in the top of the 5th with one out. Looks like Seth Maness is coming in.

  • Mike King
