Welcome to tonight’s game thread!

Last night, the Cardinals cruised to a victory after a 5-run eighth inning. Lance Lynn pitched 6.1 innings of one-run ball and Matt Adams blasted a ball into the right field bleachers to give St. Louis a lead they didn’t surrender.

Additionally, the Nationals’ loss today assures the Cardinals a spot in the playoffs. Congratulations, folks! Even if we lose every game from here on out, we will see October baseball!

But it’s not over yet. Since Atlanta won today, St. Louis is a full game behind in the race for the best record in the National League. A win tonight would keep them neck and neck, allowing St. Louis’ serious hopes of winning home field advantage all the way until the World Series alive.

So a lot of good things can happen tonight as the Cardinals look for a sweep of the Brewers. A win would put the Cardinals a full three games ahead of both the Reds and the Pirates and keep them close to Atlanta.

Joe Kelly looks to give the Cardinals this crucial victory by staving off Wily Peralta. Kelly was roughed up a little in his last outing against the Brewers, giving up 3 earned runs in 5 innings, but he has been dominant as a starter this season and hopes to show off his stuff today.

Peralta has struggled all season, although he did win his last start against the Cardinals. He has a 4.34 ERA and a 10-14 record this year.

With all of the excitement this afternoon, the Cardinals need to buckle down and sweep the Brewers tonight before heading back home for the final stand of the regular season.

Let’s go St. Louis!!!
