Brewers at Cardinals, Game 146 Thread

Welcome to the game thread!

Tonight, the Cardinals put the finishing touches on a sweep of the Brewers and extend their winning streak to 6 games!

That’s right. I’m callin’ it.

That’s how much I believe in Joe Kelly. In his last couple of outings, Kelly has been trying to turn around a struggling rotation, and last Friday he did, kicking off the current 5-game winning streak. Tonight, I predict that he keeps the mojo flowin’.

He struggled against Milwaukee out of the bullpen, but the Brewers haven’t seen him as a starter this year, and a lot has changed since then. Since becoming a starter, he has gone 8-1 with a 2.06 ERA, and nothing has indicated that that’s going to change anytime soon.

On the mound against him is Tyler Thornburg. He’s only ever faced the Cardinals once, and gave up 2 solo home runs in 4.1 innings in a no-decision. He’s looked good as a starter this season, with a 1.13 ERA in four starts, but is only 0-1 in those starts and is only averaging 6 innings per start. So if the Cardinals’ offense can get Tyler out of the game early, then they shouldn’t have too many problems handling the bullpen.

In spite of the Cardinals recent tear, they haven’t put any ground between themselves and the Pirates, so finishing off the Brewers remains important. The team can’t relax now, there’s too much at stake.

Let’s go Cardinals! Sweep the Brew-crew right out of town!

    Another strikeout for Martinez.

  • Ovadia

Come on Carp, I want to see you get one here.

  • Ovadia

Ok, Jay. Let’s get on again. Two more this inning.

  • Ovadia

Not ideal, but we’ll take it Jon!

  • Ovadia

    3-0 to Holliday.

  • Ovadia

Ball four and he’s walked. Two on for ‘tran. Go get ‘em, Carlos.

  • Ovadia

Dang, well, now we get to see Freese do his thing.

  • Ovadia

    Ah, so he CAN learn.

  • Ovadia

2-2. Let’s see if Freese can lay off another.

  • Ovadia

Inside and he does lay off! 3-2 count, come on Freese, let’s get it.

  • Ovadia

Foul. Of course. If any ever wants to bet me about the first pitch of a 3-2 count, I’m taking foul ball every time.

    • Ovadia

      Especially big at bats.

  • Ovadia

    On to the seventh . . .

  • Ovadia

    Koz almost got there.

  • Ovadia

To the bottom of the seventh!

  • Ovadia

Come on Adams, just get on base. Or jack one. Jacking one is acceptable, too.

  • Ovadia

There ya go! Adams hits it the other way. Now you just need some power that way. Oh well. Now come on Cruz! Show us what you got!

  • Ovadia

    Ok, let’s try that again: let’s go . . . . Descalso?

  • Ovadia

    Ok. Let’s go Descalso.

  • Ovadia

    WHAT??? Where was that pitch?

  • Ovadia

Ground ball, not quite a double play. Let’s go . . . Chambers?

  • Ovadia

    Ok. Let’s go Chambers.

  • Ovadia

    0-2 to Adron.

  • Ovadia

    K.

  • Ovadia

How’d they get the ball out of the bullpen? I want that pitcher in the game.

  • Ovadia

There we go. Mannes gets it done.

  • Ovadia

    Let’s go Carpenter!

  • Ovadia

Base hit for Carp! Come on now, let’s do something with it.

  • Ovadia

Carp is supposed to spark the offense, so now let’s get fired up!

  • Ovadia

Good cut from Jay. That’s a good sign.

  • Ovadia

Kintzler has an ERA over 10 against the Cards this year.

  • Ovadia

    Well, so much for momentum . . . .

  • Ovadia

    I still don’t like sharing.

  • Ovadia

Let’s go Maness. Do your job.

  • Ovadia

    And there’s another run . . . 5-2 Brewers.

  • Ovadia

Nice job, Cruz. Way to get that going.

  • Ovadia

Three more outs to put up at least three runs. Let’s go Cardinals!

  • Ovadia

Two outs for three or more runs.

  • Ovadia

    1-1 to Freese.

  • Ovadia

Freese is robbed, one out left for St. Louis.

  • Ovadia

Popped up, but out of play.

  • Ovadia

    2-2 and . . . Gone.

  • Ovadia

Beast of a player. 5-3. Now the Cards just need two more from the weakest part of their lineup.

  • Ovadia

But there’s the game. Cards take two of three from the Brewers here at home. Tough loss, ending the five game winning streak. Bucs also win, so St. Louis has to share the NL Central crown right now. Now they just have to take on the Mariners and win some games against them.

We’ll see you all tomorrow night for that game! Thanks for coming out.
