Brewers at Cardinals, Game 145 Thread

Welcome to tonight’s game thread!

The Cardinals now have a four game winning streak, and they’ve had four outstanding outings from their starting pitchers! (Remember how the rotation was falling apart about a week ago? Apparently it isn’t anymore).

Now last night was less fun, with the offense failing to put up double digits and Mujica giving up a two run shot in the ninth, but it still goes in the record books as a win, and I’ll take it.

That said, with the Reds’ win this afternoon, and the Pirates’ latest winning streak (three in a row, thanks to the incompetent Rangers), it’s absolutely necessary for the Cardinals to keep their own winning streak going. A loss tonight could result in yet another tie for first place with the obnoxious Bucs. And, call me mean-spirited, but I don’t like sharing.

Tonight is the most important start of the year for Lance Lynn. Though all of the professionals are somewhat hesitant to say so (for good reason, they aren’t supposed to say this stuff in public), Lynn is pitching for his job. If he can’t turn it around now, we’ll find someone who can — Jake Westbrook, Tyler Lyons, or Carlos Martinez, more than likely. That said, at times it is very clear that Lynn has the stuff necessary to get the job done and just psychs himself out. Hopefully he’ll get his head right and pitch the way we all know he can tonight.

Opposing Lynn is Marco Estrada. Much like Peralta last night, Estrada has struggled against the Cardinals this season, with a 8.14 ERA. Perhaps, however, those numbers will continue and the Cards won’t be no-hit through the first five innings.

Either way, we should be in for a good game tonight as Lynn fights for his life. Go Cardinals!

Come on Carp, get us going.

  • Ovadia

There we go. He learned to lay off that pitch.

  • Ovadia

If Carp has him figured out, then we could be alright. And he does.

  • Ovadia

And now Estrada could be done? Let’s go. There will be no no-no tonight.

  • Ovadia

Getting better swings here. The offense’ll come alive next inning for real. The Cards are still in this thing!

  • Ovadia

    Through the seventh. Now offense!

  • Ovadia

Now we get to Estrada. Right here.

  • Ovadia

And a hit! SEGURA DIDN’T GET THAT ONE!

  • Ovadia

    Almost got it.

  • Ovadia

Let’s go Adams. How about you park one for the blown call? I say yes.

  • Ovadia

    Come on Matt!

  • Ovadia

Almost. Crap. Second close one. How about Freese?

  • Ovadia

    3-1 to Freese . . .

  • Ovadia

Ball four and two are on! For Descalso . . .

  • Ovadia

    Bring in the Hungarian Hurricane!

    • Mike King

      I would go Yadi.

      • Ovadia

Yadi isn’t there. He’s out for family reasons.

        • Ovadia

          And his brother.

          • Mike King

            Ah did not know.

  • Ovadia

But they leave in Double D.

  • Ovadia

OH MY GOODNESS HE DID IT!!!!

  • Ovadia

3-1 to Cruz, let’s go, stud.

  • Ovadia

Oh, almost. Dangit, there’s that Brewers’ D again.

  • Ovadia

Good to see Kozma at SS. And Descalso handles 3B much better.

  • Ovadia

    Not the dangerous lead-off walk.

  • Ovadia

Trevor, calm down and K some people.

  • Ovadia

And there it is! Segura can sit back down.

  • Ovadia

And Koz’s defense gets it done! To the bottom of the eighth. Let’s score another run and get the last three outs!

  • Ovadia

Let’s go Wong, first career bomb. Right now.

  • Ovadia

    Base hit for Carp!

  • Ovadia

    3-0 to Jay!

  • Ovadia

I hope that Carp goes here. Good time for it.

    He’s off again!

  • Ovadia

    Try once more.

  • Ovadia

2 on for Mr. Matt Holliday.

  • Ovadia

  • Ovadia

    Let’s go Beltran!

  • Ovadia

    It’s a run!

  • Ovadia

Let’s go! Now let’s tack on some more before we get the last three outs of the game.

  • Ovadia

I love screw ups by the other team! My favorite thing that Ty Cobb said in his biography was “Make them throw.” Paid off there.

  • Ovadia

    Now let’s go Big City.

  • Ovadia

    Big City. Boom stick.

  • Ovadia

And Kozma down on strikes. Now let’s see Axford end it.

  • Ovadia

And Axford sets his first former teammate down.

  • Ovadia

    Two down!

  • Ovadia

And the Cards win it on another K from Axford!! That is five in a row for the Cardinals! What a start to the home stand. Let’s go Cardinals! We’ll see you all back here tomorrow! Thanks for coming!
