Cardinals at Reds, Game 140 Thread

Welcome to tonight’s game thread! Last night was as crazy as they get. Matt Adams went deep twice in extra innings to give the Cardinals the win in the sixteen-inning marathon.

Billy Hamilton stole his second base in his second big league appearance. Too bad there was a severe case of interference, or Yadi would have made him pay. Tonight, hopefully, they’ll either get the call right or Billy’ll be out anyway.

And Allen Craig twisted his ankle pretty well and isn’t in the lineup tonight. Instead, Matt Adams takes over at first base. Hopefully he can be as heroic as he was last night.

Tonight’s game features Lance Lynn, who has been struggling lately, and Tony Cingrani, who has not been struggling. If both of those trends change, then the Cardinals have a good chance to win.

Also interesting is the new shortstop. Hitting eighth, Ryan Jackson hopes to give the Cardinals some offense from the position. That said, he didn’t look all that good at AAA, but hope spring’s eternal!

If the Cards can win tonight, they’ll be back in a tie for first place before they go home to take on the Pirates again. After losing the first two games, it’s very important for the Cards to win this one and split the series with Cincinnati.

Let’s go Cardinals!!!

    Let’s go Holliday!

  • Ovadia

And running into outs. Freaking A.

Holliday walks. Should be first and second, but it isn’t.

  • Ovadia

And doubled up, out of that almost rally.

  • Ovadia

Let’s see if Lynn can handle himself.

  • Ovadia

    And Lynn got him.

  • Ovadia

3-0. Shane can’t quite jump that high.

  • Ovadia

    And Phillips goes down.

  • Ovadia

Alright. we need hits now. It’s about that time.

  • Ovadia

And Freezie Pop adds a Cardinal run! Wooo! So we can hit Cingrani!

  • Ovadia

How ’bout Adams goes back to back with him?

  • Riley

    Way to go David Feese!!

  • Ovadia

2-2 to Adams! Let me get ‘em!

  • Ovadia

    Or not, strike three.

  • Ovadia

And now the dead part of the lineup: the guy with a broken arm, the guy who can’t hit in AAA, and the pitcher.

  • Ovadia

And the guy with the broken arm almost did something.

  • Ovadia

Jackson pops out and we’re done. 3-1.

  • Ovadia

Apparently we’re just all about leaving pitches up tonight. Both Cingrani and Lynn.

  • Ovadia

And dear heavens another. 4-1 Reds. 3 on solo homers.

  • Ovadia

    And Lynn’s sixth strikeout.

  • Ovadia

Wait, you can hit the ball without hitting out of the ball park? What?

  • Ovadia

    Popped out Cozart, two down.

  • Ovadia

    Nice play by Adams!

  • Ovadia

Here comes Brock, maybe he can get a hold of one?

  • Ovadia

Nope, Peterson goes down. Cingrani’s seventh.

  • Ovadia

There’s extra bases! And a triple!!!

  • Ovadia

    Let’s go Cards!!!

  • Ovadia

And that’s a run!!!! Beautiful! I love it when other teams don’t play good defense! 4-2 Reds. And Robinson rips a base hit!

  • Ovadia

    No . . . Carp can’t be hurt too . . .

  • Ovadia

Two high pitches from Cingrani. Maybe Holliday can get a hold of one.

  • Ovadia

3-0 to Holliday and Robinson hasn’t run himself into an out yet.

  • Ovadia

Here comes Beltran! One out, two on, anything but a double play ball.

  • Ovadia

And that’s all for Cingrani! Here we go!

  • Ovadia

Let’s see how Beltran handles Duke.

  • Ovadia

Another double play . . . I didn’t like that call at first. Freaking A. Again. On to the bottom of the sixth.

  • Ovadia

    Freeman taking care of business.

  • Ovadia

Base hit for Choo. That batting average against lefties jumps just a little.

  • Ovadia

And Phillips is hurt a little bit.

  • Ovadia

    Phillips pops out, two down.

  • Ovadia

Ball four to Votto, two on, two out.

  • Ovadia

    Base hit. 5-2 Reds.

  • Ovadia

    And here comes Seth Maness.

  • Ovadia

And he gets the job done.

  • Ovadia

    The 2-2 to Freese.

  • Ovadia

And Freese walks! Let’s get it goin’, Adams!

  • Ovadia

    How was that a strike?

  • Ovadia

Three double plays in a night does not bode well for any team.

  • Ovadia

And the lead-off walk leads to naught.
