Cardinals at Reds, Game 140 Thread

David Kohl-USA TODAY Sports

Welcome to tonight’s game thread! Last night was as crazy as they get. Matt Adams went deep twice in extra innings to give the Cardinals the win in the sixteen-inning marathon.

Billy Hamilton stole his second base in his second big league appearance. Too bad there was a severe case of interference, or Yadi would have made him pay. Tonight, hopefully, they’ll either get the call right or Billy’ll be out anyway.

And Allen Craig twisted his ankle pretty well and isn’t in the lineup tonight. Instead, Matt Adams takes over at first base. Hopefully he can be as heroic as he was last night.

Tonight’s game features Lance Lynn, who has been struggling lately, and Tony Cingrani, who has not been struggling. If both of those trends change, then the Cardinals have a good chance to win.

Also interesting is the new shortstop. Hitting eighth, Ryan Jackson hopes to give the Cardinals some offense from the position. That said, he didn’t look all that good at AAA, but hope spring’s eternal!

If the Cards can win tonight, they’ll be back in a tie for first place before they go home to take on the Pirates again. After losing the first two games, it’s very important for the Cards to win this one and split the series with Cincinnati.

Let’s go Cardinals!!!

Welcome to tonight’s game thread! Let’s go Cardinals!

  • Ovadia

    Here we go, Carp!

  • Ovadia

3-2 count to Carpenter. Matt didn’t want anything to do with those last two. And a fly ball out.

  • Ovadia

Cingrani is not throwing any first pitch strikes.

  • Ovadia

    Robinson almost beat that out.

  • Ovadia

2-0 for a third straight batter for Cingrani.

  • Ovadia

And Holliday gets a base hit.

  • Ovadia

Broken bat, and Cingrani gets out of the first.

  • Ovadia

    And Choo is out.

  • Ovadia

“And Lynn looks ok right now,” the moderator said hesitantly.

  • Ovadia

    3-2 to Votto . . .

  • Ovadia

    And a walk.

  • Ovadia

The moderator’s a moron and needs to stop jinxing things.

  • Ovadia

And a 3-0 count. Come on Lynn. Pull yourself together!

  • Ovadia

    And apparently that was a strike . . . I don’t know how, but I’ll take it.

  • Ovadia

Ball four. Bases loaded. Lynn is now struggling.

  • Ovadia

    0-2.

  • Ovadia

Bounces a curve ball, and that’s a hell of a block by Tony.

  • Ovadia

    1-2.

  • Ovadia

And a strikeout! Out of the inning!

  • Ovadia

    Freese down on strikes.

  • Ovadia

    Adams goes down looking.

  • Ovadia

    Cingrani strikes out the side.

  • Ovadia

    1 down.

  • Ovadia

    Freese gets him!

  • Ovadia

    Wow, Cingrani can run.

  • Ovadia

That was a weird swinging bunt thingy.

  • Ovadia

And Cingrani stole a base . . . I half thought that was a strikeout to Choo, but whatever.

  • Ovadia

    3-2 to Choo.

  • Ovadia

And Cingrani’s on third after Lynn’s fourth walk.

  • Ovadia

Lynn needs to stop walking people, he has good stuff.

  • Ovadia

And there we do not go.

  • Ovadia

Why can’t anyone play shortstop for the Cardinals? That was bad.

  • Ovadia

That was a single? No. That was an error, if not two. Bad throw, bad life choice.

  • Ovadia

That wasn’t borderline, Al. That was ball four. No one would swing at that.

  • Ovadia

    3-2 pitch.

  • Ovadia

And an ugly swing on strike three. Here we go again.

  • Ovadia

Does this game remind anyone of another recent game (last night)?

  • Ovadia

I want Tony Cingrani. He pitches the way I want our pitchers to pitch.

  • Ovadia

    That was a strike? Sigh.

  • Ovadia

And Carp goes down. This is going to be a long night.

  • Riley

We can’t seem to hit again tonight

    • Ovadia

      Again.

  • Ovadia

    3 pitch K for Lynn.

  • Ovadia

    2 down.

  • Ovadia

3 straight Ks, and a home run. I guess that’s the way it goes. 2-0 Cincinnati.

  • Riley

    Wouldn’t you know it

  • Ovadia

And Jackson screws it up again!

  • Ovadia

Jackson needs to be out of this game ASAP.

  • Riley

I don’t think he’ll be taking over the ss position just yet :-(

  • Ovadia

And Jackson actually gets an out. 2-0 Reds.
