After a 6-1 victory over the Reds last night, the Cardinals are out for the sweep tonight behind ace Adam Wainwright. It shouldn’t be a problem because the Cardinals are on fire, and the Reds are not.

Cincinnati looked lackluster last night, to say the least. It was almost as if the shock waves from Craig’s first career grand slam resonated through yet another game. The Reds couldn’t run bases. They couldn’t field. They couldn’t hit. And they couldn’t pitch. Hopefully, after another humiliating night, the trend will continue.

Although Homer Bailey has been a fine pitcher this year (3.71 ERA), he has a weakness: St. Louis and the team that plays there. He’s 0-2 with a 9.58 ERA there this year. He’s awful at Busch Stadium, and he always has been. His career numbers against the Cardinals are only slightly better than this years, with a 3-9 record and a 5.61 ERA. But he has never won in St. Louis, going 0-5 with a 6.90 ERA. He averages 4.1 innings per start in Busch Stadium.

Unless we see a serious turnaround from both Bailey and the Reds, Wainwright should have no problem shutting them down and completing a sweep of Cincinnati.
