Reds at Cardinals, 08/28/2013 Game Thread

After a successful night last night, the game thread is back! Join in with your comments below!

After a 6-1 victory over the Reds last night, the Cardinals are out for the sweep tonight behind ace Adam Wainwright. It shouldn’t be a problem because the Cardinals are on fire, and the Reds are not.

Cincinnati looked lackluster last night, to say the least. It was almost as if the shock waves from Craig’s first career grand slam resonated through yet another game. The Reds couldn’t run bases. They couldn’t field. They couldn’t hit. And they couldn’t pitch. Hopefully, after another humiliating night, the trend will continue.

Although Homer Bailey has been a fine pitcher this year (3.71 ERA), he has a weakness: St. Louis and the team that plays there. He’s 0-2 with a 9.58 ERA there this year. He’s awful at Busch Stadium, and he always has been. His career numbers against the Cardinals are only slightly better than this years, with a 3-9 record and a 5.61 ERA. But he has never won in St. Louis, going 0-5 with a 6.90 ERA. He averages 4.1 innings per start in Busch Stadium.

Unless we see a serious turnaround from both Bailey and the Reds, Wainwright should have no problem shutting them down and completing a sweep of Cincinnati.

Enjoy the game, leave your comments below, and go Cardinals!!!

Welcome to tonight’s thread: let the games begin!

  • Daniel Solzman

Pull out the brooms and sweep!

  • Ovadia

Daniel, do you use Fancred at all?

  • Ovadia

Well, Waino won’t have a no hitter tonight. I guess that takes the pressure off.

  • Ovadia

An auspicious start. Come on Waino, hit the zone.

  • Ovadia

Down two nothing. Crap. I don’t like starting behind a team, especially with Wainwright on the mound.

  • Ovadia

    Finally, an out. 4-0.

  • Daniel Solzman

    Frustrating

  • Ovadia

No one’s at the bag. Hell of a play.

  • Ovadia

And now I miss Molina. Dear heavens. What is this?

  • Ovadia

Where did my Cardinals go? They aren’t where I left them yesterday.

  • Ovadia

Good to see that half inning end. 35 freaking pitches. 6-0 Reds.

    Sigh.

Alright league-leading offense. Do something productive against Bailey.

  • Ovadia

    One easy out for Bailey.

  • Ovadia

    Two easy outs for Bailey.

  • Ovadia

And three easy outs for Bailey. 6-0 Reds after the first.

  • Ovadia

If Wainwright gives up another hit, I start warming Wacha up again. And bring him in ASAP.

    • Ovadia

      Walks count.

  • Ovadia

If you all need some more bad news, the Pirates are leading the Brewers 4-0.

  • Ovadia

Hey! 3 more Runs for the Reds! Maybe if I cheer for them they’ll start sucking as much as Wainwright right now.

  • Ovadia

    Waino needs to go. NOW.

  • Ovadia

This is so painful to watch.

  • Ovadia

    Finally a strikeout.

  • Ovadia

Two Ks in the inning. I hope it’s the end of Wainwright, because I can’t watch him do this for another inning.

  • Ovadia

Ugliness. Everywhere. It’s like a little league team.

  • Ovadia

    Good. Wacha. Hopefully.

  • Ovadia

He can’t be any worse than Wainwright.

  • Ovadia

And that’s the first time a batter hasn’t reached base to start an inning in this game.

  • Ovadia

Wacha Ks Bailey. Better than a hit.

  • Ovadia

Two Ks in the inning. Go Wacha.

  • Ovadia

    Hey! A hit!

  • Ovadia

At least it wasn’t a double play.

  • Ovadia

    Hallelujah! A hit.

  • Ovadia

Come on, Jay! Take one for the team! I don’t care if it is 98!

  • Ovadia

You know it’s a bad night when the announcers can’t find anything encouraging to say.

  • Ovadia

If only he’d been hit by that pitch.

  • Ovadia

Bruce strikes out. Way to be.

  • Ovadia

Another K. Wacha looks dominant. Should have had him in for innings 1 and 2.

  • Ovadia

    Hey! Another hit.

  • Ovadia

    But, double play. Inning over.

  • Ovadia

    Wacha continues to look good.

  • Ovadia

Bailey continues to shut down the Cardinals.

  • Ovadia

Well, it was ugly. Now it’s over.
