Backed up runs early and a pair of home runs later in the game, the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Los Angeles Dodgers with a 5-1 victory. It brought an end to the Dodgers 15-game consecutive road wins streak.

Taking the mound for the Cardinals, Joe Kelly pitched 5.1 innings. He allowed 6 hits, 1 run, 2 walks, and 1 strikeout. It was not a dominating performance by any means but he got the job done.

Randy Choate, Seth Maness, Kevin Siegrist, Trevor Rosenthal, and Edward Mujica all pitched in relief.

The Carlos Beltran bunt from Monday night soon became moot when he blasted his 20th home run of the season in the 8th inning. It was Beltran’s first home run since playing the Oakland Athletics on June 30th. Beltran went all of July without a home run, which is hard to fathom at the least.

After Adron Chambers replaced Matt Holliday in the 8th inning as a pinch-runner, Matt Adams would pinch-hit for Rosenthal. He blasted the ball to right field for his 9th home run of the season.

The Cardinals have done a number on Dodger staff ace Clayton Kershaw. In 12 career starts against the Cardinals, the former Cy Young Award winner is 4-5 with a 3.75 ERA.
